SARAH (Self Actuated Residential Automated Habitat) is an AI program that was designed by Douglas Fargo to be the prototype home of the future. He utilized parts of an existing military program called BRAD (Battle Reactive Automatic Defense) to design the control system, and the home itself is built inside an abandoned fallout shelter. As of her appearance in Milliways she is pre-Carter's arrival in Eureka, and is thusly not imprinted beyond the basic profile that Dr. Fargo has set for her.

As SARAH is more or less an inanimate house, there is no physical depiction of where her voice is coming from -- her dialogue is broadcast throughout the house via speakers, and will appear in italics. Most of the doors and electronic devices in the house also require a command (SARAH would say a request) put to her. The house has a laser defense system (which so far in Milliways are not in the bar), various airtight partitions, and a filtered air intake. It can even analyze airborne materials. The house is powered by a radioisotope thermoelectric generator.

SARAH also has the potential of becoming attached to a particular user or users.
