Jamie and X coming to Eureka.

It may be awkward for X-23 and Jamie, transitioning from Milliways to Eureka. SARAH herself does not notice much of anything when she moves back and forth, but she advised her two guests to sit down on the living room couch before they left the bar.

"Exterior sensors have resumed function," SARAH announces. "Welcome to Eureka."

X thinks about that.

"Oh."

Beat.

"Okay."

As long as he doesn't try anything with actual sixteen year olds.

Or X will have to come back here and make him stop.

Food is not fast food in the McDonald's sense of the word, in Eureka. It's much too tasty for that.

"One spaghetti bolognese and a peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich with chocolate chips. And two Pepsis."

This being Oregon and all.

"Let me know if I can get you anything else."

"Thank you sir!"

In the tones of one who has been well-drilled by a parent to Be Polite To The Nice People In The New Town, No Really.

And Jamie digs in to the sandwich - it's awfully sweet, but really not that bad. He's certainly eaten worse.

X only sounds a little sullen. Or maybe that's embarrassed.

Then she, too, digs into her food.

It's oddly efficient for a teenager.

As he eats, Jamie cranes his neck around, staring unabashed at all the people who come in and out.

What could be more natural, from a kid moving into a new town, with new people?

If people smile at him, he smiles back.

X finishes her food quickly, then waits for Jamie.

She's paying a little more attention to scents and voices than to what people look like.

Being a sulky teenager is good for that.

Jamie takes the last bite of his sandwich and a last gulp of Pepsi, and then sets the cup firmly down on the table.

"Okayready?"

X nods once, then slips to her feet.

"Yes."

The newcomers are standing to leave, and Vincent gives them a wave from behind the bar as he inputs their charges into Fargo's account.

"Didn't know Fargo was out on hiring trips..." Vincent wonders aloud.

X hears it, but she does not care.

They will not be here long enough for it to be a problem.

And, of course, once they are outside and moving, she clicks on SARAH's communicator.

It doesn't quite look like a cell phone, really, but body language is a very useful tool.

"We have established our cover and are heading to EG now. It will not take long."

"Good to hear from you," a voice chirps through the device at X's ear. "I hope things stay this calm."

"Yes."

X is silent for a moment.

"I do not think they will. I will contact you again when we have found the data."

She clicks off the communicator and looks at Jamie.

"SARAH says 'good luck'."

Jamie grins.

"If everything goes well we won't need it. I haven't seen anyone giving us funny looks so far."

On the street, anyways - and Jamie's been watching.

There's a flash of blonde hair bouncing across the street, ducking away from the police station and towards Café Diem.

Sheriff Carter threatened his daughter today with forcing Vincent to not sell her espresso; Zoe wants to claim as much as she can before he actually carries that threat out.

Even if she is supposed to be at school at the moment.

X catches a quick glimpse of the girl's face, eyes going just the littlest bit wide.

She is someone they are supposed to avoid.

But ducking away will only attract her attention.

Which may explain why, at this exact moment, X does nothing out of the ordinary.

Jamie's attention is caught at the moment by a decidedly odd-looking cart across the street, which is why it takes him a moment or two longer to notice the girl moving towards them.

If an eyebrow goes briefly up, it's probably just because he's well aware that people his own age are meant to be in school right now.

People are noticing her.

Crap.

"Can I help you with something?" Zoe starts, coming to a dead stop about ten paces in front of the pair.

Eyes narrowing, "I haven't met you yet."

Equal parts exasperated 'New nerds' and a glimmer of hope.

"No." X says this very calmly.

"We're new. Mom's looking to move into Eureka Gardens."

Beat.

"Hi."

Zoe takes two or three nanoseconds to examine the girl that spoke first. Nondescript black tank top, button down shirt, jeans, last season's boots. If not further back.

Hair that needs highlights pronto.

She may be new, but she's definitely a nerd's kid. "Hi."

Now looking at Jamie inquisitively.

"Hi," Jamie says, grinning.

"So do you not have to go to school here?"

Heavily implied by the grin: 'maybe this move isn't going to be terrible after all.'

"If you figure out how to get out of it without testing in the two-hundredth percentile, please let me know. I'm in ninth grade with eleven-year-olds."

The former being said with an appropriately put-upon frown, but the attitude is shrugged off. "Hence the coffee run. Are you two...headed somewhere?" Continually suspicious.

"Do you not study?"

X's voice is entirely innocent.

Beat.

"Jamie's a brat and Mom couldn't take it anymore. She made us leave."

Jamie rolls his eyes so much they look to be in danger of falling out of his head.

To Zoe: "It was so boring there with Mom and the recruiters I was actually going to fall asleep if we stayed there any longer. She's just pissed because Mom made her come with me instead of sitting around with all the scientists talking about whatever swots talk about when they're alone."

Zoe has no clue what 'swots' are.

Probably some scientists brewing some shit in a flask or something.

Gross.

"Whatever. I'm for coffee." And that same head of blonde hair goes flouncing off toward a steaming cup of Vinspresso.

"Nice girl," Jamie says to Laura.
